Angkor: The Jewel In Cambodia
|
|
Tips in this Tour:
 | When visiting Angkor, make sure you wear appropriate clothing. This means fairly modest clothing that covers, even though it will be quite hot during some seasons. This is still a series of functioning temples, and the Khmer will appreciate it if you respect their religious space. Generally, ask yourself if you would wear your outfit to church or synagogue. |
 | Learning a few key phrases in Khmer will allow you to make the people you meet very happy. Unlike neighboring Thailand, very few travelers to Cambodia bother to learn any Khmer, so even learning to say hello (sues’day) or thank you (awkun) will get you many smiles. |
 | Don’t drink unbottled water, and don’t eat fruits with skins still on them. It should go without saying, but it only takes one slip to leave you with a very unpleasant stomach bug. And ice is the silent menace that people always forget: fruit juice is safe, but if it has ice in the glass, politely send it back. |
 | US currency is accepted in Cambodia, and is in many cases easier to deal with than the riel. Carry lots of one-dollar bills, as many things will cost a dollar. |
 | Bring gifts for the throngs of children who will beg, if you’d prefer to give them goods instead of money. Pens, pencils, notebooks, colored markers, and other school supplies are all appreciated. And, of course, there is always candy! |
