China's Great Wall: Walking On History
|
|
Tips in this Tour:
 | Learning a few basic words in Mandarin will earn you brownie points with the Chinese: hello (nihao), good bye (zaijian), please (qing) and thank you (xiexie). Knowing a few numbers also is helpful. |
 | Comfortable walking/athletic shoes are a must for walking on the Wall for the average person. Visitors to the more rugged sites will probably want to wear sturdy hiking boots. |
 | Hiring a taxi for the day is best if you want to visit the less accessible sites on the Great Wall or want to spend more time there than tours allow. If you rent, remember you also pay for the driver’s meals and admission fees. For an authentic Chinese meal, have the driver order so you can get dishes that aren’t on an English menu. |
 | Carry an adequate supply of bottled water with you when you head out on China's Great Wall. At some sites, you may not meet anyone selling water. |
 | Eating lunch at the Great Wall is a fun experience. Be sure to pack out any trash you create, leaving only your footprints on the Wall. |
