Beijing: Finding Peace And Quiet
|
|
Tips in this Tour:
 | If the weather is nice, plan on a picnic lunch at places such as Tanzhe' Temple, ShiDu or any of the Beijing parks. It's a nice break from restaurants. Your hotel dining room may be able to fix sandwiches, or visit a Chinese market to pick up what you need. |
 | Get to know the various neighborhoods by getting off the subway at random stops. Spend awhile walking around, then hop back on and ride to another destination. Some subway stops are within a long walking distance of each other, so you could hike between them. |
 | Bring disposable plastic forks if you don’t think you can manage chopsticks; small neighborhood restaurants probably won’t have any. Don’t worry about holding your chopsticks properly; if you can feed yourself, you’re doing fine. |
 | Avoid expensive ATM withdrawal fees by getting money only at a Chinese bank that is affiliated with your bank at home. This way you’ll only have to pay currency conversion fees. Contact your bank before you go for its Chinese affiliate. |
 | Just because you see members of the same sex holding hands or walking arm in arm, don’t assume they are gay. This is acceptable behavior, particularly among young people, in China. |
