California's Point Reyes National Seashore
|
|
Tips in this Tour:
 | The best way to access Point Reyes National Seashore is by private vehicle or rental car. The expansive park can be reached by Coast Highway 1 or Sir Francis Drake Highway. From Highway 101 in Marin County take the Sir Francis Drake exit in San Rafael. |
 | From the east and north it is possible to cross to Marin County on the 580 Richmond Bridge, or drive around San Pablo Bay on Highway 37, both connecting to the 101. |
 | Marin County contains several large cities so there is no shortage of hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, or sporting goods outlets. |
 | If you wish to stay near Point Reyes, there are a half dozen charming Bed and Breakfast Inns clustered around the small town of Olema. |
 | Because of high demand for limited parking during whale migration season, the National Park has created a shuttle system. The Winter Shuttle Bus for the Point Reyes Headlands runs from late December through mid-April. Sir Francis Drake Highway is closed beyond South Beach Road from 9 to 5:30, weekends and holidays, during favorable weather conditions. |
