Air Crossroads Of The World: Anchorage, Alaska

Known as the Air Crossroads of the World, Anchorage is an extremely popular international destination and one of the busiest air freight gateways in the world. Yet the city retains a friendly, small town feel. Anchorage is home to over 1,000 non-domesticated moose, a sharp reminder that the untamed wilderness lies in the city’s backyard.

In this tour, an experienced Alaska traveler will act as your personal guide as you explore both the famous tourist attractions and the lesser-known delights. Along the way, you will learn tips and tricks for living like a local, saving money, and maximizing your enjoyment.

Tips in this Tour:
Before your trip to Anchorage, consider purchasing the Great Alaskan TourSaver Book. The book costs $100, but includes valuable two-for-one discount coupons that could save you literally thousands. A quick internet search will provide more information.
The closest grocery store to downtown Anchorage is a bit of a hike, but the walk is beautiful. Along the way you will pass an elegant cemetery and the excellent Falafel King restaurant, so plan to take your time.
Anchorage weather is unpredictable, as the city lies between the cold ocean water and always snow-capped mountains. Rain is frequent, and cold snaps can occur even in the middle of the day. Dress in layers and carry good rain gear.
Never buy an Anchorage souvenir at the first place you see it. You will find much better prices if you comparison shop between several stores.
Leave plenty of time in your Anchorage schedule for shopping. While the souvenir shops are fun, venture into the local stores as well. You will find everything from high tech cold weather gear to bearskin rugs, as well as a few surprises.
