Tips in this Tour:
If you see umbrellas for sale at the front of shops, buy one. It's definitely going to rain!
Western bakeries are very popular and are great places to buy breakfast if you don't fancy Miso soup first thing in the morning. Better hotels may have one in the lobby, available to anyone passing through.
Book shops are often to be found at rail stations. Look for Sudoku and other logic puzzles, if that's your thing. Graphic novels (Manga) are also available, but note some of the books can be very explicit! Books usually read from "back" to "front" in Western terms.
It's polite to bow--a nod of the head will do unless you're meeting someone REALLY important--and it helps establish rapport with the person you're talking to. Don't overdo it or the checkout girl will feel obliged to bow lower. The Japanese know you're a foreigner and are very forgiving.
Publically showing strong emotion, such as anger, is not considered courteous, and is unlikely to get you what you want.
