A Walk Through Singapore's Colonial Past
|
| This walk takes you through the very heart of Singapore, revealing both the modern and the historical. You start the tour surrounded by soaring skyscrapers in the city’s financial district before taking a walk back in time to the very beginnings of modern Singapore. You will enjoy some of the most picturesque perspectives of the city, including famous landmarks, stunning examples of colonial architecture, and panoramic views of the Singapore River. You’ll learn about the city’s early residents and Singapore’s role in World War II, before ending the tour in true colonial splendour--with a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel! |

Tips in this Tour:
 | The MRT (subway) in Singapore is excellent--safe, efficient, cheap, clean, and air-conditioned--and is the best way to get to all major parts of the city. Taxis are also cheap and plentiful if you avoid rush hour, when various surcharges can almost double the fare. |
 | Singapore is hot and humid and there is little shade within the Colonial District. Be sure to bring your sun hat and sun cream and keep well hydrated. |
 | A ride on a traditional bumboat is a great way to take in the sites of the Singapore River in a leisurely fashion. The best place to start the tour is Merlion Park at the mouth of the river. |
 | A Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel is on all visitors' to-do lists. A happy hour from 5pm-9pm, Sunday to Wednesday, helps keep the bill in check. |
 | If you’re in Singapore on a Sunday, be sure to reserve a table at one of the hotel’s lavish champagne Sunday brunches. These see the city’s well-heeled flocking to enjoy impressive buffet spreads, washed down with free-flow bubbly.
